Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad on Wednesday said that government has resolutely decided to halt timber smuggling in the state and preserve forest wealth. For the purpose, several more stringent measures are being taken.
The Minister said this during his whirlwind tour of Dood Pathri, Rithen Ring Zabal and Khepora villages of Budgam district.
The minister directed the officers to set up forest check posts in these areas after every 2 kilometres in view of their vulnerability. He also directed the forest officers to frequently visit these areas and intensify vigil along the suspicious smuggling routes.
Mian Altaf enroute interacted with various public deputations and listened to their demands. He assured redressal of their genuine demands. Seeking co-operation of the locals of the area in putting a check on timber smuggling, the Minister sensitized them about the importance of preserving green gold in the state.
The Minister was accompanied by Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Mr. Irshad Ahmad Khan, Chief Conservator of Forest , Kashmir, Mr. Shafat Ahmad, Director Forest Protection Force, Mr. Vinod Ranjan and other senior officers of forest and its allied departments.
